Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified and dynamic full-time professional to fill the position of Operations Supervisor for the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation, supervision, and support of all operating events, of all sizes, for the local and regional market for the convention center. This position is also responsible for building maintenance, daily janitorial services, onsite customer service, and shipping and receiving.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $29.00 - $33.00 CAD.

About the Venue

The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, located at 273 Power Street in Penticton, BC, is a versatile convention center venue, boasting over 60,000 sq ft of event floor space. The facility hosts approximately 200 events annually, with a variety of corporate, consumer, and live events, attracting both local and international visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Work from general instructions and specifications.
  • Read and interpret paperwork and floorplans regarding room set-ups.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise all part-time staff within the department
  • Set rooms according to the requested layouts.
  • Directly set up and tear down a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to, chairs, tables, staging, risers, trash cans, dance floors, coat racks, table skirting, carpet, pipe & drape, plywood, field covers, and tarps.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub & wax floors; wash walls, windows, stainless steel, countertops, and woodwork.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms to the highest quality of service while replenishing supplies.
  • Remove stains, clean, and extract carpet.
  • Responsible for properly cleaning and maintaining a specific area of the facility. Always ensuring the area is hygienic, orderly, and ready for public use.
  • Dusts, polishes, arranges, and moves furniture and equipment.
  • Remove rubbish and waste.
  • Use hand tools or small powered equipment applicable to the work being performed.
  • Provide instructions to part-time team members.
  • Housekeeping/Setup Workers.
  • Perform facility maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Report defective equipment, facility damage, areas of the facility requiring cleaning, and incorrect or improper set-ups to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums, forklifts, and scissor lift
  • Work effectively in a service-orientated environment
  • Support other departments as required
  • Work a flexible schedule including mornings, days, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays, as required by scheduled events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in related event-based operations, such as Convention Center, Arenas, , Hotel or Public Assembly facility, with at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of services and activities related to a public assembly facility, with an understanding of facility housekeeping and event operations
  • Knowledge of services and activities related to public assembly facilities, including AVB services, Freight handling, Electrical distribution, venue maintenance, and Housekeeping
  • A Familiarity with terminology used in an Events Centre environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work irregular and flexible hours and shifts, as based on event requirements
